SON REINAS

BIOGRAPHY

"Son Reinas is a 10-piece female salsa orchestra from Tokyo, Japan. Son Reinas started playing as a group in the beginning of March of 1994. Since then, the group appeared in various music festivals including the prestigious, ""'95 SUMMER JAZZ"" spotlighting world-known artists including Japan's illustrious Orquesta De La Luz. Richie Bonilla, former manager of Orquesta De La Luz, discovered Son Reinas. He brought them to New York for the first time in 1997. They played for a month in clubs like Birdland, Broadway 2, SOBs (Sounds of Brazil), Café Remy and others. They also appeared on four television shows, various radio programs, and were featured in many magazines and newspapers. They played to rave reviews and were cheered by audiences everywhere. The very attractive and sexy looking group proved they were not just a bunch of pretty faces. They are tight musically and have earned respect in the industry based on healthy album sales and excellent musicianship. Son Reinas pergenres mostly original music. They are well versed in Latin rhythms and in addition to salsa they play merengue, cha cha, bolero and other genres of Latin American music as well. They will concentrate on dance music for their Washington, DC show. More than half of their songs are arranged by world famous names like Hugo Blanco, Chucho Valdes former leader of Cuban band Irakere and various other leading arrangers in New York, Miami, etc. Lead vocalist, Izumi Muramatsu had a strong interest in Puerto Rican and Cuban music and founded the group to create something special and unusual for Japanese audiences. The all female group hopes to match the success of Japan's first commercially successful salsa orchestra, Orchesta De La Luz. The clear-voiced Muramatsu states that she is more proud of the energy than she can convey to their audiences. The group consists of Izumi Muramatsu (vocals), Madoka Nakazawa (sax, flute), Miki Shichijo (trumpet), Yukari Kawamura (trombone), Kaoru Sumida (trumpet), Enami Nakano (piano), Akiko Ise (bass), Misato Kojima (conga), Tomoko Hoshino (bongo) and Erika Higa (timbales)
