Who Is Tonino Carotone? His true name is Antonio de la Cuesta, his friend Manu Chao defines him "the last one de los celentanos". He has the look of a man who has survived to many battles, someone that knows joys and pains about life but, irreducibly, he still believes in love. A hard man with a sweet heart who is in love with Italy and its melodie: Mina, Celentano.... But the stage name Tonino Carotone, is a homage to Renato Carosone who he estimates over every other musicians and that it has successfully been involved in his album, produced from Manu Chao. Carotone is a man with warm and hoars voice that remembers Fred Buscaglione.His romantic and elegant aspect like Willy De Villas provokes consents and sympathy, the single "Me cago en el amor" ("I’m involved in love") includes also an unknown piece of Manu Chao, the trampa. Tonino is part of Radiobemba, of which more than a member he is nearly a living icon, because he is indeed a film character, beyond that an instinctive, sincere musician. "A Tonino lo llamo maestro" assert his friend Manu to him and define "la mejor banda de iluminados y iluminadores" the group which he has been travelling with over the last years: Kojon Prieto y los Huajolotes, improbable band of Mexican "ranchera" music. The group has a good success in Spain, particularly in the region of Navarre, where the style has a real tradition. But the Huajolotes, faces all with attitude punk, leaving perplexed and scandalizing the lovers of the true "mariachi" style. After a series of accidental encounters at late night in bars of Madrid, the friendship with Manu Chao has tightened more and more, until coming to an artistic collaboration. « Me cago en el amor » is a recent history and those small phrases in Italian that contains ("Is a difficult world, intense life, happiness at moments, uncertain future") is becoming more and more one diffused citation. The simple and immediate street philosophy in which all of us can be recognized someway; such as melodie and rhythm of the popular music that sounds familiar to us. Therefore it happens that it’s easy to fall in love with Tonino Carotone, for the humanity and the sincerity that we can find in his voice and for the energy of his music.

Chi è Tonino Carotone? il suo nome vero è Antonio de la Cuesta, l'amico Manu Chao lo definisce "l'ultimo de los celentanos". Ha l'aria dell'uomo di mondo che è sopravvissuto a tante battaglie, che della vita conosce le gioie e i dolori ma che, irriducibilmente, crede ancora nell'amore. Un duro dal cuore tenero, innamorato dell'Italia e delle sue melodie: di Mina, Celentano, …. Ma il nome d'arte di Tonino Carotone, è un omaggio a quel Renato Carosone che stima sopra ogni altro e che è riuscito perfino a coinvolgere nel suo album, prodotto da Manu Chao.Tipo strano e fascinoso, con voce calda e un po' roca ricorda Fred Buscaglione, e l'aspetto da elegantone romantico alla Willy De Ville, suscita consensi e simpatia, il singolo “Me cago en el amor” ("mi coinvolgo nell'amore") comprende anche un pezzo inedito di Manu Chao, La trampa. Tonino fa parte dei Radiobemba, di cui più che un membro è quasi un'icona vivente, perché è davvero un personaggio da film, oltre che un musicista istintivo, sincero e passionale. "A Tonino io lo chiamo Maestro" afferma con sicurezza il suo amico Manu e definisce "la mejor banda de iluminados y iluminadores" il gruppo con cui il nostro ha percorso gli ultimi anni: Kojon Prieto y los Huajolotes, inverosimile banda di musica "ranchera" messicana. Il gruppo ha un buon successo in Spagna, particolarmente nella regione della Navarra, dove il genere ha una certa tradizione. I Huajolotes però, affrontano il tutto con attitudine punk e piglio circense, lasciando perplessi, se non scandalizzati, gli amanti dei veri "mariachi". Dopo una serie di casuali incontri a tarda notte nei bar di Madrid, l'amicizia con Manu Chao si stringe sempre più, fino a sfociare in una stretta collaborazione artistica.” Me cago en el amor” è storia recente e quelle piccole frasi in italiano che contiene ("E' un mondo difficile, vita intensa, felicità a momenti, futuro incerto") stanno diventando una citazione sempre più diffusa. Filosofia da strada, semplice e immediata, ma in cui tutti noi ci possiamo riconoscere in qualche modo; così come le melodie ed i ritmi della musica popolare che la accompagnano ci suonano familiari e confortevoli. Così succede che di Tonino Carotone ci si innamora facilmente, d'istinto, per l'umanità e la sincerità che si riconoscono nella sua voce e per l'energia della sua musica.
